Experiences of the Blind in Science

Ashley Neybert,

Oregon State University, Corvallis, Oregon.

As a community, the blind have been aware of disadvantages the blind face in sciences for a long time, yet no comprehensive survey of their experiences has ever been documented. This leads to difficulty in determining the exact problems people face in order to best work towards problem resolution. In this discussion, I will share a comprehensive survey of blind people’s reported experience with science and some initial results from the study to improve future outlooks for increasing science access for the blind.
